AFSPA Withdrawl From Northeast
Summary of News
The Central Government has indicated that AFSPA may be removed from almost the entire Northeast by next year. AFSPA gives special powers to the armed forces in “disturbed areas” to maintain law and order. At present, more than 80% of the Northeast is already outside AFSPA. The government says that violence has reduced sharply because of around 12 peace accords signed since 2019 with different groups in the region.
